Vision

Creating safe, affordable, and sustainable buildings and communities.

Mission

To provide the information, tools, and resources that members rely on, building safety professionals turn to, and the public trusts.

Core Values

The International Code Council is the largest international association of building safety professionals. The Code Council is the trusted source of model codes and standards that establish the baseline for building safety globally and create a level playing field for builders and manufacturers. International Code Council building safety solutions draw directly from the expertise we develop in authoring the international codes and standards and apply that to product evaluation, accreditation, certification, codification, training, and technology.

At the Code Council, we understand that cultivating a diverse and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change. We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, physical ability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, language, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.

Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing inclusion in all activities of the Code Council.

History

The International Code Council was established in 1994, with the goal of developing a single set of national model construction codes. It brought together three different organizations that had developed three separate sets of model codes throughout the U.S.: Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) and Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc. (SBCCI).

We are an equal-opportunity employer, and we are committed to providing a work environment free of harassment and discrimination.

About the Building Membership Council:

The purpose of the Building Membership Council (BMC) shall be to enhance professionalism and advocate for concerns and issues that are of particular interest to building officials, to assist ICC in increasing the participation of such individuals in the ICC Code development process, and to advise ICC on programs and policies, legislative matters, code adoption issues and such other matters as the Council deems appropriate.

About the Raise The Profile Subcommittee

This Raise The Profile (RTP) subcommittee recognizes the efforts building officials put forth every day and ensures that the difference made in the built environment is appreciated, emulated, supported, and promoted to help make the building official a desired and destination profession. In addition, the subcommittee actively promotes Building Safety Month to schools, contractor groups, and policymakers; coordinates subject matter and authors for the BMC Tips (formerly Tip of the Quarter); and encourages active participation in the code development process.

RTP Co-Chaired by Elizabeth Arrington and Amrinder Singh
